Telerehab for Pulmonary Rehabilitation

prTelerehab provides an alternative to the traditional, face-to-face model of pulmonary rehabilitation program delivery by making use of information and communication technology.

The prTelerehab website is a resource for the establishment of remotely delivered pulmonary rehabilitation programs – particularly those making use of advanced technology and that use exercise equipment. The content, based on national and international guidelines, is modelled on the REAcH (Rehabilitation Exercise At Home) telerehabilitation program. It has been devised in inconjunction with clinicians and patients, and is designed to provide guidance for healthcare professionals providing care for people with a chronic lung disease.

Setting up a program

Setting up a new telerehabilitation program requires planning, particularly for program models that make use of advanced technology. This section highlights key factors in program planning including staffing, equipment and clinical resources, to consider relative to your healthcare context.

Who should participate

Telerehabilitation creates the opportunity for people with chronic lung disease to undertake supervised exercise training, and receive peer support, in a virtual group – all from the comfort of their own home. But telerehabilitation may not suit everyone. This section explores which model of telerehabilitation might suit particular patients.

Program Delivery

A core component of pulmonary rehabilitation includes individually prescribed and progressed exercise training. Considerations for the successful  delivery of a virtual group telerehabilitation session are outlined in this section including establishing group dynamics, patient monitoring and tips for troubleshooting.
